Located 45 minutes north of Panama City, the Nikki Beach resort is scheduled to open in March of 2008. The Nikki Beach Playa Blanca Resort and Spa complex will include a 140-unit condo-hotel in addition to two other elements, Nikki Beach Residences, which will feature 60 two and three bedroom ocean view apartments, and Nikki Beach Lofts, featuring 68 one and two bedroom ocean view lofts. Nikki Beach, internationally known for its opulent hotels and resorts, recently opened a similar resort in Turks and Caicos, and currently has 15 planned resorts worldwide.

The resort, which is located in Playa Blanca, has seen a recent surge in major international projects and upscale condominiums, including a Hard Rock Hotel opening in the area in the near future. Playa Blanca, Panama was also rated one of the top destinations to visit in 2008 by the New York Times.

Hard Rock International recently received the necessary approval to begin condo sales for their new Hard Rock Hotel Panama located on the Pacific Ocean in Panama. According to a press release I received from a reader earlier this week, this major project will be located in Playa Blanca, and is to include 499 units, a 200,000 square foot pool, two restaurants and a spa. Hard Rock International is famous for their popular Hard Rock Café locations around the world, as well as their Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos. Hard Rock International is a subsidiary of Seminole Hard Rock Entertainment, which is wholly owned by the Florida Seminole Tribe of Florida. The Panama Hard Rock Hotel location is being developed by the Virginia based firm Lago Mar Resorts.

The approval of the Hard Rock Hotel is good news for Playa Blanca, which was already named one of the top destinations to visit this year by the New York Times. The press release for the hotel claims “the eco-sensitive design of the hotel will incorporate Panamanian culture from Spanish colonial to Kuna motifs…” Sounds pretty interesting, if they can pull it off.

The Hard Rock is one of several upscale developments currently being planned for the region, with the posh Nikki Beach Resort scheduled to be completed later this year.

The New York Times recently listed Playa Blanca, Panama as one of the top places to visit this year. There are several major developments under construction in what the article describes as a “once quiet fishing village on the Pacific coast of Panama,” including a gated residential community and resort being built by Nikki Beach and Resorts. The self proclaimed “sexiest place on earth,” Nikki Beach Playa Blanca, is scheduled for completion in December 2008. The article also mentions a more affordable vacation option, the Breezes Panama, which is an all inclusive resort being built by Superclubs and scheduled to open in 2009.
